COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DESCENDER, FIGURE-8
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
1.1 Design and construction. The figure-8 descender shall be aluminum with a soft anodized finish covering 100 percent of the surface area of the descender and shall be free of all burrs and sharp edges. The small end shall be large enough to accommodate two 12.7-mm diameter snap links. The large end shall be large enough to accommodate two 11-mm ropes. The figure-8 descender shall have a minimum breaking strength of 1800 kilograms and a maximum weight of 140 grams. The figure-8 descenders shall be capable of withstanding and 1000-kilogram pull test. Color shall be black and the manufacturer’s identification symbol shall be stamped on each descender.
2. QUALITY ASSURANCE
2.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify, and maintain substantiating evidence, that the product offered meets the salient characteristics and requirements of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices, and is the same as the product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
