sizes. The lenses shall be one piece including integral side shields for lateral protection. The brow bar shall provide secure retention of the lens via a three point snap in mounting system. It shall provide cushioning through an integral flexible web on the surface with elastomeric covering for wearer comfort. The configuration of the carrying case is also critical for mission success and must be identical or equal to the UVEX Safety incorporate Specs Vo Eye Armor Case. The spectacles provide adjustment using pliable nasal pieces with metal insert to hold adjustment, telescoping adjustment of 15 mm temples pieces, and a ratchet hinge at the temple/brow bar connection for angular adjustment of the lens.
2.1.1 Color. The frame shall be black, nasal shall be clear or black and the lens shall be clear or gray. The entire gray lens must be neutral gray in color.
2.1.2 Material. The clear and gray lens shall be fabricated entirely from polycarbonate. The frame and the carrying case shall be fabricated from super tough nylon.
2.2 Ballistic Protection. The ballistic resistance of the spectacles with each lens shall be such that they will pass a Vo test using a 0.15 caliber, 5.8 Grain, T37 Fragment Simulating Projectile (FSP) at a velocity of 640 to 660 feet per second when tested in accordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-662, Ballistic Test Acceptance Method for Personal Armor Material. The spectacles shall be mounted on a male head form in the as-worn position. The 0.002 inch thick aluminum foil witness sheet shall be mounted 2 inches behind the area of impact. The sample shall be hit once at normal incidence at a point centered vertically and at a horizontal distance of 32 mm from the centerline. The sample shall be considered a failure if the witness sheet is punctured or if the sample is cracked.
2.3 Photopic transmittance. The gray lens shall limit the photopic transmittance to 15 ± 3 percent.
2.4 Mechanical and optical performance. The lenses shall meet the mechanical and optical performance requirements contained in ANSI Z87.1-1989, Practice for Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection, and ANSI Z80.3-1986, Requirements for Non-Prescription Sunglasses and Fashion Eyewear.
3. QUALITY ASSURANCE
3.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify, and maintain substantiating evidence, that the product offered meets the salient characteristics and requirements of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
