4.2.1 First article samples. Twelve complete pairs of spectacles, two spare frames, and two
sets of lens overlay templates shall be provided. The samples shall be representative of the
construction, workmanship, components, and materials to be used during production. Approval
of the first article samples or the waiving of first article inspection (see 6.2) does not preclude the
requirements for performing conformance inspection. First article samples shall be furnished to
the Government as directed by the contracting officer (see 6.2).
4.3 Conformance inspection. Conformance inspection shall consist of the tests specified in
table III performed on individual products or lots to determine conformance with the
requirements of this specification. Nonconformance with any specification requirement shall be
cause for rejection of the lot represented by the sample.
4.3.1 Lot formation. An inspection lot size shall be expressed in sample units of spectacles

The sample unit shall be one pair of spectacles with carrying case.
4.3.2 Sampling. The sample size and acceptance criteria for the examinations and tests for
the spectacles with carrying case shall be as specified in table III.
4.4 Conformance verification inspection. Conformance verification inspection shall consist
